about
We arrived at the festival early to help set up tables and the stage. There was a threat of rain so the food vendor decided to pack up and leave. The next thing I remember Nathan and I are headed to Kroger with a couple hundred dollars and instructions to buy every cheap pack of hot dogs they had. We borrowed a grill from a friend and head back downtown. For the rest of the day we watched the family friendly blues bands, the cover bands, and a few folk acts while sweating over the grill serving hot dogs. As the evening set in more people left and so I think we ended up playing for less than a hundred people. Mostly people from the 804noise collective, the organizers, a few of the bands, and all the security guards. Frustrated tired and hungry we made the most of it.
This recording is the last half of our standard set at the time. We were joined by Hallelujah! [CNP Records] at the very end of "I See The Nightbirds" and the sound guy (who toured in Slash's Snake Pit as we later found out) was manipulating the Howard Zinn audio I gave him. The Turning Basin is located a the bottom of a hill under the downtown express way and the added noise of cars passing was almost perfect at times. The reverb and echo is all natural and really made the set spooky and huge sounding. Tulsa Drone, who played just before us, sounded amazing in this environment! Unfortunately, soon after this festival took place a condo building broke ground and was constructed right on top of where we performed this set.
The audio was recorded from a video camera across the basin. You can hear some people walk up and ask Edwin what band is playing near the end of "Nightbirds" almost directly into the mic... other than that it's a pretty good documentation of what ANDF was doing at the time.
